Sleep Paralysis or visit?

In the early hours of this morning I had an unusual experience which I can't fully explain.
This started off with a weird sensation with slight pain in my head that seemed to match an unusual noise, both which pulsed in a strange pattern and in sync. I opened my eyes and there was also a blue pulsing light in my room that was also in sync. From the doorway appeared a figure with an oval shaped head (Nothing like the stereotypical hollywood alien). The figure appeared to be a dark grey colour but this was difficult to make out due to the blue light. The figure approached me across my head and as soon as it was right beside me, everything went blank for what felt like 5-10 seconds. This was followed by the same sound, sensation and lights with no figure but they were fading out.
Throughout the experience I couldn't move which makes me look a bit at sleep paralysis but I can't explain the realness along with remembering the sound and feeling too. When I could see the figure I was also petrified and can recall the feeling which I've never had so intense before but once i blacked out I had an extremely calm feeling. I could also move once the sound and sensation in my head had stopped.
When I woke up my bedroom door was open and I've confirmed with a house mate that the door was closed 30 mins before I woke as they were leaving for work.
Any thoughts or insights are greatly appreciated.

Hi Malachar and welcome to the site.
Before you go down the road of ruling out natural causes I would always say anything regarding a possible medical issue should be directed at your GP, the reason I'm saying this is because you described having, "slight pain in my head that seemed to match an unusual noise" which could point to an underlying medical condition, I'm not saying it is but its always best to rule it out first.
In answer to your question, there are a couple of things that could possibly explain what you experienced, as you said Sleep Paralysis is one of the possible answers as you've described in your question, its also known as the 'old hag syndrome'.
Another possible answer is a thing called lucid dreaming. There is tons of information on the internet regarding lucid dreaming which you can find with a quick search, a bit of information on it can be found here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucid_dream
Also another thing to note is, were you watching a movie before you went to sleep or during the day that may have influenced your dream patterns or had you discussed anything along the lines as to what you experienced with anyone?
Is this the first time you have experienced what you described?
Once again I will say if your concerned about anything that you experienced always talk to your doctor first to rule out any medical conditions and once you get the all clear there are other avenues that you can look into.
I hope this helps answer your question or at least point you in the right direction.

Hi Malachar,
I would agree with Core in that it does sound like a brain issue and if it continues to be painful then to consult a doc. but having said that I am no doc so its up to you!
Any visitations, contacts from either ET's or Spirits etc. even Lucid Dreaming/Out of Body experiences are rarely if ever painful. Any pain experienced by abductee's are usually when they wake up on a craft and freak out and throw a fit and have to be physically/mentally restrained.
But if it does continue and you are not experiencing pain then just calm down and take note of what is going on and try talking to 'them' to see what they want.
